My Girlfriend Is Texting Me Less: How to Tell a Busy Month From Distance
Your girlfriend is texting you less. She used to send paragraphs and voice notes. Now she takes hours to respond, and when she does, it's "lol" or "ok."
What it looks like
You text her at 10:15: "How's the morning? Saw something funny, will send later." At 1:40 you get "good." No question back.
You scroll up to spring. Long messages, photos of her lunch, "miss you" for no reason. Now the chat reads like one with a coworker: bread, home at 8, ok.
You've started counting who texts first and how many words come back. You know it's a bad habit. You count anyway.
Three explanations
1. Texting turned into logistics, and the warmth lives in person
You see each other most days, and the phone became a tool for errands. She says the warm things at home.
How to check. Compare the chat with your evenings. If in person she laughs, touches you, and tells you about her day, the cold lives only in the chat, and that's not a real problem.
2. Less texting is part of a wider pullback
The short replies came along with other changes: less touch, fewer plans, quieter evenings. The chat is just where you noticed it first.
How to check. Look at who started conversations over the last 10 days and whether you have plans past the weekend. If both are thin, read why is my girlfriend distant all of a sudden.
3. She's busy, and texting is the first thing to go
A heavy stretch at work or at home squeezes out the small stuff first. She's not texting anyone much.
How to check. Does she tell you what's going on? Does she make up for it when things calm down? If yes, see is she losing interest or just busy for the finer points.
What to do
Stop
- Stop double-texting. Three messages in a row with no reply reads as pressure.
- Stop asking "why are you so dry?" over text. The chat is the worst place for that talk.
- Stop mirroring her coldness to make a point. Nobody wins a contest in being distant.
This week
Text less, but make it count. One message a day with something specific in it: "Drove past that taco place from our first month. It closed. Unreal." No question attached, no reply required.
Don't text first twice in a row. If she didn't answer, the next message is hers.
After 7 days
If nothing has shifted, talk in person, not in the chat: "I've noticed our texts have gotten pretty flat, and it bugs me more than I expected. Are you just tired of your phone, or is something off between us?"
Check what's behind the silence
Twelve questions about what's happening beyond the chat: plans, who reaches out, touch, how fast things changed. It runs in your browser, and your answers never leave your device.

Is she pulling away or is it in your head?

If her texts have become the only thing you can think about, and it's hurting your sleep or work, talk to someone who handles this: where to get help.
FAQ
Why does my girlfriend take hours to respond? Most often because the phone has become a chore tool and she answers when she's free. If the slow replies came with less warmth in person too, the texts are a symptom of a wider distance.
My girlfriend leaves me on read. Should I say something? Once, in person, and not as an accusation. Saying "you left me on read again" by text almost always turns into a fight.
Should I stop texting her first? Don't stop completely, it'll look like sulking. Just don't text more than she replies. If a full week passes without her starting a single conversation, bring it up face to face.
