Decided in the heat of the moment: it ended fast, and she still replies

It ended fast: a fight, harsh words, tears or yelling, and she left that same night or within a couple of days. There were no long talks about breaking up before that. And she’s still reachable: she replies, even if briefly, and you talked recently.

A decision made in one evening hasn’t hardened into a position she has to defend yet, so there’s more room for movement here than in the other scenarios. But getting back together and staying together are two different questions. In research on young adults, getting back with an ex is common (Halpern-Meekin et al., 2013), yet there’s no reliable figure for how many of those couples last. Two things move this situation: her decision cooling off without pressure, and you having an honest answer about what would be different. The trigger was small. The buildup wasn’t.
